Cupping Therapy

Cupping (Latin Ventosatio) as local blood suction is a traditional therapeutic procedure in which a negative pressure is applied to a limited area of skin. During cupping, a negative pressure is created in so-called cupping glasses or cupping heads. These cupping glasses are placed directly on the skin. The negative pressure is created by a suction device in the cupping glass.

The position of the cupping points is based on the palpation findings, i.e. cupping is performed in the area of myogelosis (muscular hardenings). Depending on the position of the cupping points, an internal organ is to be influenced by the cutivisceral reflex.
Locally, the suction during cupping causes an extravasation and subsequently a hematoma.
In cupping massage (also called suction massage), the cupping glass is placed on intact areas of skin that have been oiled beforehand. The cupping glass is then moved over a specific area, which has a stronger blood circulation stimulating effect than a classic massage.

Cupping is said to be helpful for a variety of disorders, including migraine, rheumatism, intervertebral disc problems, lumbago, knee problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, hypertension, sciatica, tonsil problems (here especially in the special form of Rödern), bronchitis, asthma, headache, kidney weakness, weather sensitivity, hypotension, fatigue, depression, states of weakness, digestive problems, cardiovascular diseases, organ problems, fever, cold and flu.
